About Us
St. Isidore Plaza, located in Los Alamitos, California, is a former Catholic church with an adjacent hall and an inviting courtyard. St. Isidore's was built by parishioners who were Hispanic sugar cane field hands and Belgian dairy farmers. During the Twenties, St. Isidore served as a refuge for Mexican priests who were escaping persecution in their own country. She was partially destroyed during the 1933 earthquake but was rebuilt again in 1933. During the Forties, St. Isidore provided momentary respite for thousands of soldiers, sailors, and airmen going off to war. The patio will be restructured to provide shade trees, tables and some greenery to welcome local workers and visitors with a quiet location to enjoy their lunches and to rest their souls. The Comite Del Amor, the Committee of Love, is a group of determined individuals, parishioners and sympathetic neighbors whose goal it is to renovate the plaza for use by the community. |
